Chartwells Universities, part of Compass UK & Ireland, has secured a 10-year contract extension with Northumbria University for an undisclosed sum.
Over the past two years, the contract caterer has transitioned the traditional canteen offering into a dark kitchen concept with an external delivery platforms to adapt to changing demand from students.
Staff and students will also be able to place orders via an app that can make direct payments and provide educational, nutritional content.

David Jackson, director of campus experience at Northumbria University, added: “Convenience, quality, and value are clearly incredibly important to our students, but what really stood out in the approach was the additional added value and CSR initiatives, such as the regional procurement, and cook-at-home delivery boxes, which will enrich the overall student experience and provide guidance and support during their time in Northumbria.”
Chartwells Universities is part of Compass UK & Ireland's education arm and operates more than 16 sites across the country.
