French pastry chef Cedric Grolet is to open his first patisserie outside of France at London’s Berkeley hotel in early 2022.
Grolet is executive pastry chef at Le Meurice hotel in Paris, home to Alain Ducasse’s two-Michelin-starred restaurant, and is known for his realistic fruit desserts, filled with a molten ganache fillings, as well as patisserie with delicate flower designs.
A London opening has long been on the cards for the chef, who posted an image of a site under construction to his two million Instagram followers in October.
The London patisserie, named Cedric Grolet at the Berkeley, will be positioned on Knightsbridge, across from Hyde Park. Eight guests will be able to sit overlooking the kitchen, where they can watch the chefs in action. Grolet’s fruit and flower creations will be on sale, as well as pastries, viennoisseries, and exclusive new creations.
Customers will be able to order items to takeaway or eat within the Berkeley Cafe, a new 60-seater space within the hotel which will serve breakfast and ‘Goûter Cedric Grolet’, a new teatime experience.
Grolet said: “Opening in London is a monumental event for me. It’s the first time we will be outside of France, and London - particularly the Berkeley with its forward thinking attitude - was the obvious choice.
“It is such a special city and its energy completely inspires me. I can’t wait to open early next year and share with the capital the result of mixing my two universes for the very first time.”
The Berkeley is also home to Marcus, chef Marcus Wareing’s Michelin-starred restaurant.
