Virgin Hotels announced it was taking over Ennismore’s Mondrian Shoreditch hotel in June last year.
David Monson has been named general manager at Virgin Hotels London Shoreditch ahead of its full opening this spring.
He joins from the Broadwick Soho hotel, where he has been general manager since 2021.
Virgin Hotels announced its takeover of the Mondrian Shoreditch last summer, three years after the hotel first opened as an Ennismore property in 2021.
The 120-bedroom hotel embarked on a ‘phased transformation’ into a Virgin Hotels site and has been operating since August 2024 with Spanish restaurant Bibo from chef Dani Garcia.
It is Virgin Hotels’ first London venue after the brand made its UK debut in Edinburg in 2022.
Monson has over 30 years’ experience in the industry, having also worked at Como Hotels & Resorts, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, and London’s Claridge’s and the Savoy.
James Bermingham, chief executive of Virgin Hotels Collection, said: “We are beyond excited to welcome David to the Virgin Hotels family. With London-Shoreditch being our first outpost in the capital and the birthplace of the Virgin brand, his appointment comes at an exciting time for the brand’s growth.
“David’s deep expertise in hospitality, particularly within the UK market, makes him the perfect fit to help us deliver the kind of memorable experiences and heartfelt service that Virgin Hotels is known for.”
Virgin Hotels operates eight hotels across the UK and the US. It closed its Glasgow site just four months after opening in December 2023, but the group said it was continuing to explore development opportunities in Boston, Los Angeles, Austin, Philadelphia, Seattle and more.
