Hotel group Accor has announced the signing of its first Tribe hotel in England at Manchester Airport, in partnership with H3 Hotels.
The new development will be the second Tribe in the UK, with the first under development in Glasgow, and will feature 412 rooms and suites. The brand aims describes itself as “design-led, affordable luxury”, combining “the feeling of a trendy urban hub, creative workspaces and the relaxation of home”.
The nine-storey hotel will feature four restaurant and bar areas, working spaces, a gym and a crew lounge for airline staff. Construction of the new-build hotel, for which planning permission has recently been granted, is scheduled for later this year (subject to Covid-19 considerations), with the development expected to take two years to complete.
Thomas Dubaere, chief operating officer of Accor Northern Europe, said: “The UK remains a priority long-term global market for development, investment, travel, business and tourism and this development reflects that.”
Philip Lassman, vice-president, development, Accor Northern Europe, said: “We believe that the Tribe brand has huge potential in the UK. The combination of design, art and smart service delivers an exceptional feeling of quality while still providing travellers with great value.”
Jonathan Haigh, managing director, MAG Property, and development leader for Airport City Manchester, added: “We are delighted Accor has chosen our scheme for its largest Tribe to date. It’s an exciting new brand to this market and as we look forward to a time when the Covid 19 crisis is behind us, we expect the new Tribe hotel to be extremely well received by guests, not only airport users for whom it is exceptionally well located for terminal access, but also for the business occupiers of Airport City Manchester and wider region who will benefit from enhanced amenity. ”
Dexter Moren, partner at architectural firm Dexter Moren Associates, added: “The design for Tribe Manchester aims to give the hotel a distinct urban identity within the Manchester Airport City masterplan, bringing a youthful energy with bold colour, contemporary architecture and materials.”
Tribe was first launched in Australia by Mark and Melissa Peters, and there are plans to open more than 150 Tribe properties worldwide over the next five years, including in London.
Accor has a portfolio of 5,000 hotels and residences across 110 countries, with 39 brands.
