Pool Court to move site

POOL Court, for 28 years one of the most celebrated restaurants in Yorkshire, is to close on its site at Pool-in-Wharfedale in September, to be transported to a room within Leeds hotel, 42 The Calls.

The present Pool Court property will be put on the market by owner Michael Gill, who told Caterer he was reacting to the changing nature of the restaurant business and the new vibrancy in Leeds city centre.

Mr Gill said the new 30-seat Pool Court would offer the same standards, merely in a different location. However, it will be without some of the key people who helped earn the restaurant its long-awaited Michelin star two years ago.

Head chef David Watson will not be making the move to Leeds, nor are there presently any plans for any other staff to move.

The cooking at the new restaurant will be done by Jeff Baker, presently in charge of the kitchen at Brasserie 44, situated next door to 42 The Calls.

Brasserie 44 is a partnership between Mr Gill and the hotel's owner Jonathan Wix.
