Young’s to buy ‘a handful’ of pubs from Lucky Onion Group

Pub group Young’s has confirmed that it has agreed to acquire “a handful” of pubs and hotels in the Cotswolds from the Lucky Onion Group.

Superdry co-founder Julian Dunkerton backed the launch of Lucky Onion Group in 2006, headed up by Sam and Georgie Pearman. Following the departure of the Pearmans in 2017, Neil Fincham-Dukes was appointed chief executive, with Dunkerton as the sole director.

The group has seven properties: No 131 the Promenade, No 38 the Park, the Tavern, the Hollow Bottom and the Wheatsheaf Inn (pictured) in Cheltenham, the Crown Inn Minchinhampton and the Wild Duck in Cirencester.

SoGlos has reported the group was hit hard by the pandemic and saw staff numbers fall from 94 in to 66 last year, while Dunkerton’s attentions were drawn more towards Superdry since he re-joined the board in 2019. The Times has reported the deal includes all sites except for No 131 the Promenade.

Young's sold 56 of the 63 pubs in its tenanted estate, the Ram Pub Company, to Punch Pubs & Co for £53m last year.

The Lucky Onion Group has been contacted for comment.
