Work has started on the development of the first EasyHotel to be operated by Splendid Hospitality Group.
The 53-bedroom EasyHotel in Reading is being transformed from Rainbows Lodge and will open in August.
Located a few minutes' walk from the town centre, the new EasyHotel Reading will be managed under a franchise agreement signed between Splendid and EasyHotels in November 2016. Splendid currently operates a further 19 hotels, some as independent properties such as the Grand Hotel & Spa in York, and others under a range of brands from InterContinental, AccorHotels, Hilton and Choice.
Stuart Bailey, chief executive of Splendid Hospitality Group, said: "This will be our first ‘super budget' hotel with EasyHotel, so we are thrilled at welcoming a new brand to our portfolio. It's great to be able to bring something fresh and super affordable to business and leisure travellers. We have a highly skilled team of professionals on board to manage all aspects of this project."
Chief executive officer EasyHotel Guy Parsons, added: "This exciting project takes EasyHotel's pipeline of owned and leased development projects to 1,150 rooms and 1,857 franchise rooms currently under development."
The building contract has been awarded to TW Construct and the interior design project is being led by Axiom Architects.
EasyHotel's development pipeline of owned hotels includes three with planning permission in Ipswich, Sheffield and Leeds and a further five in Milton Keynes, Cardiff, Oxford, Cambridge and Chester, subject to planning consent. There are also a further 10 franchised properties being developed in the UK and overseas.
