Villa at Henrietta Park in Bath sold to Roseate Hotels & Resorts

Bath hoteliers Ian and Christa Taylor have sold the 21-bedroom Villa at Henrietta Park to the Indian-owned Roseate Hotels & Resorts.

The sale, which has come two years after the Taylors bought the property, which was then known as Villa Magdala, leaves them with two hotels in the city: the four-AA-star, 62-bedroom Abbey hotel, and the 39-bedroom No 15 Great Pulteney.

Villa at Henrietta Park joins a portfolio of four hotels owned by Roseate, which includes two in the UK: the 23-bedroom Forbury in Reading and the 48-bedroom Royal Park in London. Roseate, whose parent company is the Bird Group, also owns two hotels in New Delhi.

Ian Taylor said there had been no plan to sell the Villa, as "it was our intention to see through further expansion with an additional eight bedrooms and a small spa, which has been granted planning permission". However, their plans changed when the Taylors were approached by the Bird Group with "a very good offer", the details of which they did not disclose.

Taylor added that that he hopes "to seek out other opportunities in the Bath and Bristol area".

Last week the Taylors celebrated the success of Andrew Foulkes, general manager of the Abbey hotel, who won the Manager of the Year award at the 2017 Catey Awards. The Taylors are seasoned Catey winners, having previously won three awards for Independent Hotel of the Year in 2005 and Best Independent Marketing Campaign in 2005 and 2007, after successfully transforming Cotswold House in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire, into a high-performing, luxury boutique hotel.

Cotswold House and sister hotel Noel Arms were both sold by the Taylors in 2007.
