Video: Stuart Procter and Ryan Giggs introduce Hotel Football Old Trafford

The official opening of Hotel Football Old Trafford got off to a spectacular start on Saturday with more than 3,000 people pouring through the doors before and after Manchester United's home win against Sunderland.

The £1 per head entrance fee to the club, which is charged only on match days, will be donated to local charities.

Elsewhere throughout the hotel, customers ate in the 185-cover Café Football and on hospitality packages in the main function areas, including the Stadium Suite, Players’ Lounge and roof top football pitch called Heaven, where a barbeque was served.

Stuart Procter, managing director of GG Hospitality, the parent company of Hotel Football, said: “Saturday was the best day I have ever experienced since I started in the hospitality industry. I was blown away by my team.

“Hotel Football Old Trafford is one of the UK’s most unique hotel developments. We have built the foundations of a strong and experienced team to drive forward the opening of the hotel and look forward to inviting guests to enjoy the experience.”

The launch of Hotel Football follows on from the opening of the 120-seat Café Football in Westfield Stratford, London â€" overseen by executive chef Brendan Fyldes and two-Michelin-star chef Michael Wignall of Pennyhill Park, Surrey - in December 2013.
