Travelodge reports surge in New Year's Eve bookings as consumer confidence grows

Some 61% of the people quizzed in a Travelodge survey have said they plan to go out and party to celebrate the New Year.

The hotel chain surved 2,500 adults to find out the nation's plans for New Year's Eve, with most saying they will see it in at venues across the country.

Of those surveyed, 43% said they were heading into the New Year feeling more positive than at any point in the last five years.

Travelodge said that as a result over half of its hotels are booked out for 31st December, with double digit growth in room bookings compared to New Year's Eve 2012.

The data revealed that it's not just city centre hotels that are sold out, but also tourist destinations such as the Cotswolds, Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District, Torquay and Windsor.

A Travelodge spokesperson said: "It's very encouraging to see Britons being optimistic about their future and welcoming 2014 in a celebratory style. As a result of this optimistic outlook we have experienced double digit growth in New Year's Eve bookings compared to last year. Interestingly it is not just our city centre hotels that are full tonight, as hotels in tourist destinations such as Scotland, the Cotswolds, Yorkshire Dales and Cornwall are also enjoying 100% occupancy."
