Tortilla ends delivery partnership with Deliveroo

Tortilla has ended its delivery partnership with Deliveroo as part of a review of its strategy.

The burrito brand’s Mexican dishes can no longer be ordered on the Deliveroo app but are still available on Uber Eats and Just Eat.

Tortilla said working with three delivery partners had helped boost sales and brand awareness, but delivery commission charges had “challenged margin performance”.

“To mitigate this, the group sought for a new delivery structure and to strengthen the relationship between fewer partners,” Tortilla said in an announcement.

Tortilla said it delivered 1.5 million main dishes across its three delivery partners in 2023, and the chicken pibil burrito was its most popular dish.

The decision to cut ties with Deliveroo comes as part of a wider management strategy to drive profitability at Tortilla, which is set to open four new restaurants in UK travel hubs in partnership with SSP this year.

Tortilla is the second major restaurant brand to publicly end its partnership with Deliveroo in the last six months. In October, KFC split with the delivery giant after failing to reach an agreement on commission rates.

A Deliveroo spokesperson said: “Deliveroo’s focus is providing great selection and value on our platform and we are proud to partner with roughly 60,000 of the best restaurants in the UK and Ireland.

"With thousands of incredible Mexican restaurants on Deliveroo, including many that are only available on our platform, there’s a huge selection for people to choose from.”
