Chef Tommy Heaney is set to open a coffee and wine bar next door to his eponymous restaurant in Cardiff.
As The Caterer reported earlier this month, having opened his 52-cover restaurant Heaneys in Pontcanna in October at the former Arbennig site, the chef is now looking at the adjoining site which he also took on from Arbennig owners, who also operated it as a café/deli, and hopes to relaunch it at the end of February. Ahead of opening, Heaney used the café as a pop-up venue to refine his concept.
Open for breakfast and lunch in the day and wine and charcuterie at night, the new coffee/wine bar will offer cooked breakfasts, including homemade sausages, sourdough and black pudding. Healthier options will feature yogurts, seasonal fruit, homemade granola and honeycomb.
The lunch menu will offer stews, house salads and sandwiches and soups both to eat in or take out. Available all day will be crumpets and bagels; cooked meats that have been cured, cooked and smoked in house; and from mid-afternoon the site will also offer charcuterie, cheese and wine.
Heaney has also teamed up with a local coffee producer to create a home blend which will be roasted on site and fresh juices will be juiced to order. Gins will be on offer, as well as house craft beer on tap. Plans for monthly wine tastings with guest winemakers and specialists and live music events with local artists are also scheduled.
Mixed level seating in the form of high and low bar stools will surround refectory style tables and there will also be window seating.
