Tim Hortons' UK expansion drive to create 2,000 jobs

Canadian coffee and doughnut chain Tim Hortons is planning a major UK expansion drive to capitalise on the popularity of its drive-through restaurants.

The company said it wants to open in ‘every major city and town’ across the country by 2022 in a move expected to create more than 2,000 jobs.

Tim Hortons launched its first UK site in Glasgow in 2017 and now runs 23 restaurants nationwide.

Its next site will launch in Milton Keynes in December, offering drive-through and a 74-cover indoor seating area.

The restaurant, which will create over 40 full and part-time jobs, is the most southern opening in the UK for the chain so far.

Kevin Hydes, chief commercial officer at Tim Hortons UK and Ireland, said: “Despite challenging times for the hospitality sector, our drive-through businesses have performed exceptionally well and our model is proving to be well-attuned to the evolving needs of customers at this time.

“Our launch into Milton Keynes is just the start of our planned expansion throughout the UK, with many more exciting openings in the pipeline for 2021”.

Tim Hortons was founded in 1964 and now runs over 4,700 restaurants in Canada, the US and worldwide.

It is owned by fast food giant Restaurant Brands International, which is also behind Burger King and the Popeyes fried chicken chain.
