The Roof Gardens closes its doors after 37 years blaming ‘unpredictable market conditions'

The Roof Gardens has closed its doors after 37 years with "unpredictable market conditions" blamed for the business' struggle to turn a profit.

The exclusive Grade II-listed party venue, in Kensington, West London, had been run by Richard Branson's Virgin Group and included a night club and the award-winning Babylon restaurant.

The venue confirmed its closure in a statement syaing: "In the face of unpredictable market conditions and a challenge to remain profitable, sadly we can confirm we have closed our doors."

Jon Brown, Managing Director for the Roof Gardens commented: "For over 35 years The Roof Gardens has showcased top DJs and live musical talent as well as hosting numerous events, parties, award ceremonies, weddings and dinners in our award winning restaurant Babylon.

"The time has now come for us to hang up our dancing shoes, and take off our gardening gloves, but one thing's for sure and that is The Roof Gardens will continue to be one of London's most spectacular and extraordinary landmarks and we look forward to seeing what's next for this beautiful venue."

The iconic west London venue was famed for its gardens complete with resident flamingos on the seventh floor.

Customers reported bookings for events, including weddings, being cancelled on social media following the announcement of the Roof Gardens' closure.
