The Ritz launches investigation following ‘potential data breach’

The Ritz hotel in London’s Mayfair has launched an investigation into a potential breach of its food and beverage reservation system.

The five-red-AA-star, 136-bedroom hotel has warned that the suspected breach may have compromised some personal data. A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that on 12 August 2020, we were aware of a potential data breach within our food and beverage reservation system, which may have compromised some of our clients’ personal data. This does not include any credit card details or payment information.

“We immediately launched an investigation to identify the cause of the breach, which is ongoing, to find out what happened, how it happened and to prevent this from happening again. We have contacted all of our clients whose data may have been compromised and alerted the Information Commissioner’s Office of the incident.”

The Ritz London was sold to a Qatari investor in March, a week after it was forced to close its doors for the first time in more than a century due to coronavirus.

Former owners from the Barclay family are engaged in a prolonged High Court dispute around the details of the sale.
