The Mansion House hotel put up for sale following owner's bankruptcy

The Mansion House hotel in Elgin, Scotland, has been put up for sale following the bankruptcy of its previous owner.

The 130-year-old 23-bedroom property has been offered for sale by chartered surveyors DM Hall, appointed by Wylie & Bisset as agents for the Scottish Government's Accountant in Bankruptcy. Its former owner David Baker was declared bankrupt last month.

The B-listed, AA four-star property situated on the banks of the River Lossie boasts a leisure centre with swimming pool, fitness suite, spa facilities and a hair salon, along with a restaurant, bar and function room. There is also a C-listed lodge with three bedrooms.

A temporary management team was installed by secured creditor Santander, which is operating the 19^th century former baronial mansion on a bed and breakfast only basis while a new owner is sought.

The hotel is on the market for £975,000 to include trade inventory and the lodge. DM Hall claimed that there had already been significant interest in the property and it is hoped that it will be back to running a full service before the summer season. The annual turnover was over £1m.

Baker was declared bankrupt over an unpaid £90,000 tax bill.
