The Cinnamon Club founder to open Atticus in Angel

Iqbal Wahhab, founder of the Cinnamon Club in Westminster and Roast in Borough Market, has announced his newest restaurant opening, Atticus.

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee â€" will open in Angel, North London, following a £1.5m investment from Wahhab and his backers.

The menu will serve Southern US dishes such as fried chicken, ribs and barbecued meats. Average spend is estimated to be £25 for lunch and £35 for dinner.

Wahhab has teamed up with the charity Bounce Back, which helps ex-offenders get in to employment. Roles at Atticus will be available for disadvantaged people.

If successful, Wahhab hopes to roll out Atticus across the UK as a chain of restaurants.

Atticus was originally due to open in 2015 with Wyatt Shevloff heading the operation, who had former positions at La Dolce Vita in Hong Kong, Rouge Restaurant in Edinburgh and Beaufort House â€" a private members' club in London’s Chelsea. He worked with Wahhab at Roast between December 2011 and August 2015.

It’s unconfirmed who will head Atticus.

Wahhab was born in Bangladesh. In 1991 he set up his own PR company and the Tandoori Magazine followed in 1994. After leaving the magazine he went on to launch the Cinnamon Club in 2001 but stepped down four years later to open Roast.

He received an OBE in the 2010 New Years Honours list for public service and services to the hospitality industry.
