Worcester City Council is inviting tenders for an exciting opportunity to create a new destination for food and drink at our new Scala Arts Centre, right in the heart of Worcester city centre.
The Council received a grant for city centre regeneration through the Government’s “Future High Streets Fund” and is investing over £8.5m in the full redevelopment of the Scala and Corn Exchange. This investment is expected to deliver major increases in footfall into this part of the city centre and create new employment opportunities.
Delivered with leading local creative organisations, the Scala Arts Centre will be a daytime and evening multi-purpose space to increase participation in the arts and raise cultural ambition in Worcester. The Scala provides the city with three new studio spaces and it will host independent cinema, diverse performances, workshops, events and classes. Private hires and functions will be a key component of the income base.
The food and beverage offer will be focused on the historic Corn Exchange, which offers a stunning glass-vaulted ceiling and real visual appeal. The space was previously operated as a restaurant by a national chain and the Council is funding a complete refurbishment. For customers, the space opens out directly onto Angel Street as well as connecting to the Scala next door.
Our aim is to combine the look and feel of both spaces, to deliver a unique customer experience. The Scala and Corn Exchange will add to Worcester’s cultural reputation, attracting visitors locally, regionally and beyond.
