Marriott has confirmed its long-awaited first UK St Regis hotel will open in the former Westbury hotel in London's Mayfair in 2025.
News of the management agreement between Cola Holdings and the Westbury Hotel Limited was announced in February 2022, with an initial opening date slated for 2023.
At a media briefing this week, Joanna Chugh, area vice president, UK, Ireland and the Nordics at Marriott, said: “Our next London opening is St Regis in the Westbury hotel. It will open during 2025 on the corner of Conduit street and Bond street. It’s under development and we are really excited to be able to bring St Regis to London.”
The St Regis brand was formerly part of the Starwood portfolio until it was sold to Marriott in 2016 under an £8b deal.
The St Regis London will be a luxury property with butler service. It will also pay homage to the private retreats of St Regis’ founding family, the Astors.
The building had originally been designed for the American Phipps family, who created the Westbury hotel in New York and were known for being avid polo players. Heritage features, such as the Polo Bar, are set to remain.
The £90m redevelopment will see the addition of an eighth floor and the refurbishment of 196 rooms, which are being designed by Peter Newman-Earp of Morrison Design.
Plans for a signature restaurant, speakeasy jazz bar, fitness centre and spa are also underway.
Marriott International currently operates more than 40 St. Regis properties in 20 countries and territories.
