Squatters removed from Marco Pierre White’s abandoned restaurant

The Met Police has removed squatters from Marco Pierre White’s abandoned restaurant in Leicester Square, The Telegraph has reported.

Up to 400 squatters were thought to be in the property which was the location of the Mr White's restaurant until it closed at the start of this year.

The Metropolitan Police have now secured the five-floor building after neighbouring restaurant Jollibee told the newspaper that it had reported the issue to Westminster City Council.

The news comes after Gordon Ramsay’s Grade II-listed York & Albany hotel and gastropub situated just outside Regent's Park also recently found itself home to squatters who locked themselves inside in a bid to set up cafe serving free food to the local community.

Ramsay previously called the police but was unable to have the squatters removed, it is understood. Police released a statement saying it did not attend the property as it was a “civil matter”.

Yesterday, the group of squatters appeared to shut its Camden Art Café after revealing on Instagram that it had been served legal papers.
