Social Sunday raises £35,000 for Hospitality Action

Social Sunday returned for a third year to Jason and Irha Atherton's Social Company on 11 June, raising £35,000 for Hospitality Action.

Held in seven of the group's London-based restaurants, the Michelin-starred restaurateur and his chefs collaborated with chefs including Ollie Dabbous, Elizabeth Allen, Ben Orpwood, David Carter and Ben Tish to create a bespoke lunch menu.

Group bar executive Jamie Jones, who was recently crowned Diageo Reserve GB World Class Bartender 2017, also welcomed a line up of London bartenders to the group's flagship bar, the Blind Pig.

Available at each London restaurant for one service only, the events offered guests the opportunity to try food created by some of the country's top chefs collaborating with one another.

At the group's flagship restaurant, Pollen Street Social, Jason Atherton hosted Elizabeth Allen, who is soon to launch solo venture Shibui, Mark Jarvis of Anglo and James Cochran, formerly of the Ledbury and now at the helm of his eponymous restaurant James Cochran EC3 in Liverpool Street.

Across the street at Little Social, chef patron Cary Docherty created a menu with executive chef of the Typing Room, Lee Westcott. For an all Michelin-starred line up, Peter Sanchez-Iglesias of Casamia restaurant in Bristol teamed up with Paul Hood at Social Eating House, while Tom Brown from Outlaw's at the Capital, joined forces with Marcus Rohlen at Social Wine & Tapas.

Alex Craciun, chef patron at the Social Company's Japanese izakaya-style restaurant, Sosharu, welcomed chefs Ollie Dabbous, Ben Orpwood (formerly of Zuma and Sexy Fish) and pastry chef Daniel Fletcher to create a Japanese menu with modern British influences.

Keith Hooker welcomed David Carter of Smokestak to the grill at Temple and Sons. At the Social Company's newest opening, Hai Cenato, head chef Frankie Van Loo hosted Ben Tish, known for his Mediterranean twists on tapas. £1 is also being added to bills for the month of June in aid of Hospitality Action at the London Edition hotel's Berners Tavern.

Behind the ‘hidden' door above Social Eating House, guest bartenders joined the Blind Pig bar team, including Peg + Patriot and Scout's Matt Whiley, aka the Talented Mr Fox, Daniel Schofield from Coupette, Jake O'Brien Murphy from Callooh Callay and Aidan Bowie of Dandelyan.

Each lunch was ticketed, priced between £65 and £180 per person, with all proceeds going to Hospitality Action, all staff working for free on the day, and suppliers donating their produce.

Jason Atherton said: "Our third Social Sunday in aid of Hospitality Action was an amazing day. A huge thank you from me and Irha to all of our staff, suppliers and guest chefs for their hard work and support in making this happen."
