Simon Shaw to take on Vincent Café site after Aiden Byrne's deal falls through

Simon Shaw is to open a second El Gato Negro in Liverpool, taking on the site formerly occupied by Steven Gerrard's Vincent Café.

Last month chef Aiden Byrne announced plans to open at the venue, but the deal fell through. Now Simon Shaw has confirmed that he will open a second El Gato Negro in the landmark Exchange Flags building.

The chef-patron opened his Manchester tapas restaurant (pictured) in 2016. It has held a Michelin Bib Gourmand for three years and has an AA rosette.

Liverpool's Exchange Flags building faces Liverpool Town Hall and includes commercial offices, a museum and restaurants.

Shaw said: "I am really looking forward to opening a second El Gato Negro restaurant. Liverpool's an incredible city and I love the community spirit and vibe there. The restaurant has been so popular in Manchester that it only seemed right to bring the venue to a second city in the North and Liverpool seemed like the perfect fit."
