Signature Living to open Waring hotel in Belfast's War Memorial building

Signature Living is set to open the Waring hotel in Belfast's former War Memorial building.

The property was opened as the official War Memorial Building in Northern Ireland by the Queen Mother in 1963 and was intended to provide office accommodation for charities and organisations linked to the Armed Forces.

Signature Living acquired the building on Waring Steet in September 2017 and planning permission has now been given to transform it into a 64-bedroom hotel with two bars and restaurants, one on the ground floor and one on the rooftop, The bedrooms will sleep two to 16 guests.

Working in partnership with architecture and design studio O'Donnell O'Neill, the hotel is expected to open in the summer and will be branded as a Signature Living hotel.

The company's pipeline also includes the the Harris hotel in Preston's Old Post Office, due to open this spring, the Dixie Dean hotel in Liverpool, due to open in the summer; as well as two more hotels in Belfast: the George Best hotel and the Lanyon hotel in the old Crumlin Road Courthouse, both scheduled for an autumn opening.

A 100-bedroom hotel is also expected to be added to its Alma de Cuba restaurant in Liverpool, and Signature Living has launched a bid to transform Liverpool's Grade II-listed Croxteth Hall into a hotel and wedding venue.

Signature Living launched with the opening of its Victoria Street Apartments in Liverpool in 2008 and expanded into hotels with the opening of the Signature Living hotel in 2013 in the city. The company now operates four hotels including 30 James Street and the Shankly hotel in Liverpool, and the Exchange hotel in Cardiff.
