Shiva Hotels’ Marylebone Lane hotel the BoTree to open next year

Shiva Hotels’ Marylebone Lane hotel is to be called the BoTree and an opening date of July 2023 has been announced.

The 199-bedroom, five-star hotel will have 29 suites, bars, two restaurants (one of which will be on the rooftop), a live music club, a boutique screening room and a fitness centre.

The BoTree will be a sister property to the group’s Middle Eight in Covent Garden and the Guardsman hotel in Westminster and will open as a member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts’ Legend Collection.

Guestrooms will be designed by Amsterdam-based designer Concrete with colourful natural fabrics and ‘eclectic textures created exclusively for the hotel’.

Rooms will have a reception space separated by sliding panels leading to bedrooms and lounge areas. Contemporary suites, ranging from 31m² to 78m² will have a lounge, balcony, personal bar and integrated cocktail station.

The largest, the Presidential Suite, will offer views across central London. Featuring a private elevator lobby, guest entrance and an outdoor terrace, the space can be combined with the adjoining suites to create a 350m² (3770 sq ft) wing.

Shiva Hotels’ managing director Rishi Sachdev said: “The BoTree combines uncompromising standards with a purpose-driven approach to establish our own form of luxury. Conscious luxury. Our core values of truth, love and compassion will drive our business decisions in this new hotel.”

The site previously housed businesses including Meat Liquor’s first permanent site, which it was confirmed in 2017 would be replaced by a hotel. Shiva secured £230m for the development in 2020.

It is the latest luxury lifestyle property in the group’s portfolio. Shiva, established in 2001, was previously better known for its portfolio of London-based, Hilton-branded properties: the Lincoln Plaza in Canary Wharf, which operates under Hilton's soft Curio brand; the Hilton Heathrow Airport Terminal 5; the DoubleTree by Hilton Excel; and the Hampton by Hilton Waterloo, as well as another DoubleTree in York. The company has also been vocal in its commitment to tackling modern slavery in the hospitality industry through the Shiva Foundation.

The group put four of its Hilton hotels on the market for £270m in 2015 as part of a refocusing on the luxury boutique hotel and the Lincoln Plaza London remains the only Hilton-branded hotel listed on the group’s website. The Guardsman and Middle Eight opened in 2020.
