Sadiq Khan to launch 'biggest ever' London tourism campaign

The mayor of London has promised to launch the "biggest domestic tourism campaign London has ever seen" to help revive the capital’s economy as Covid restrictions are eased.

In a speech at Shakespeare’s Globe yesterday, Sadiq Khan announced his ‘Let’s Do London’ campaign was being created in partnership with the city’s hospitality, culture and retail industries.

It will feature a programme of special events starting later this month, when London’s chefs and hospitality venues will come together to promote the capital’s food offer.

There will also be a number of public art installations designed to attract people back to London, with a takeover of Piccadilly Circus station by artist David Hockney starting on 10 May.

There will be a transformation of road crossings and street furniture in the West End, with a partnership between Royal Academy artists and the Heart of London Business Alliance Art of London programme. Award-winning artist and designer Es Devlin will plant a living forest at Somerset House for this year’s London Design Biennale.

The mayor has allocated £6m to support the new campaign, in addition to the industry contributing £1m in funding and value in kind.

Khan said: “The work begins anew today to refresh and reignite our city and to kick-start our economy as London continues to reopen.  This includes making jobs, jobs, jobs a top priority and banging the drum for London to attract the jobs, tourism and investment our city needs.”
