Event and fine dining caterer Rhubarb Hospitality Company (RHC) is expanding to Berlin having signed a space in the Sony Center at the city’s famous Potsdamer Platz.
Oxford Properties has let its Kaisersaal flagship restaurant and events space to Rhubarb, which is on-site fitting out the 23,000 sq ft space, due to open it in early 2022.
RHC operates venues in the UK including at the Sky Garden, the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Ascot and Mamma Mia! The Party at the O2. In 2017 RHC expanded overseas, securing three flagship projects at Hudson Yards in New York, including Peak and Wild Ink, Peak events space and Sonnier & Castle events business. Earlier this year the group opened the Market at 22 Bishopsgate in London.
Nigel Gillingham of Gillingham Bell International, which advised Oxford Properties, said: “We have built a very strong relationship with the team at Oxford Properties over the last few years following working with them and their partners on Hudson Yards in New York where we brought leading London restaurants to that project, including D&D London, and are very proud to be part of their incredible team working on regenerating the Sony Centre in Berlin – one of the most impressive and iconic global mixed-use projects that will continue the return of Berlin as one of the world’s greatest cities.
“We also have a very longstanding relationship with the Rhubarb Group and worked with them on securing their first site in New York – the Peak; one of the highest restaurants in the western hemisphere, and are very excited to have brought them to the Sony Center in Berlin as one of the anchor tenants. Working with Robert Angell International Design, RHC will create one of the largest and most exciting new restaurant concepts in Berlin’s continuing regeneration and we are currently in discussion with further very exciting restaurant, leisure and retail concepts from the US, UK and Europe.”
Jay Drexler of Oxford Properties added: “Nigel and his team have a strong understanding for Oxford’s customer-led approach to asset management and how to connect the very best operators with world-class real estate. We look forward to continuing to work with Gillingham Bell across our global portfolio.”
