Disgruntled neighbours of Hotel du Vin Wimbledon are trying to block the hotel's application to hold late-night events outdoors with live music.
An application by the four-AA-star, 46-bedroom hotel to host events in marquees and serve alcohol on some nights until 2am was rejected by the licensing sub-committee of Merton Council in June, after 35 residents voiced their concerns about the late-night noise levels in the surrounding residential area.
The hotel is also hoping to be able to hold events indoors with dancing until 12.30am and put up large screens to televise major sporting events, including the nearby Wimbledon tennis championships, until midnight.
Residents, who are once again objecting to the proposals and are taking legal advice, said there has been âdozens of incidents of nuisance and noiseâ at the hotel during the past month, despite assurances from the management that they would be âgood neighboursâ.
Struan Robertson, one local resident, said: âIf anything the noise and nuisance is worse than it was before.
âThe hotel has taken no notice of its own policies and undertakings around social responsibility. The impact on our unique environment of Wimbledon Common continues to be blighted by regular loud music and raucous people in the car park, keeping us awake into the early hoursâ.
âOur concerns are being ignored by the hotel â" it is very debilitating.â
The licence application is currently open to the public for consultation until 31 August.
Hotel du Vin declined to comment.
A spokesperson for Hotel du Vin said: âHotel du Vin is working closely with local residents and all relevant authorities. We are continuing to invest in appropriate systems and procedures to ensure that we both comply with all relevant regulations and remain a best practise local hotel for all.â
