Regent Street and St James restaurants pledge to slash food waste

Eleven restaurants around Regent Street and St James have pledged to cut their food waste by 25% by May 2020.

The pledge had been drawn up by Crown Estates, the owner of the sites, inspired by the United Nation's goal to halve food waste by 2030.

Currently the UK food service industry wastes an average of one in six meals, enough to fill the Shard almost 11 times every year.

The restaurants who have committed to the pledge are Brasserie Zedel; Angela Hartnett's Café Murano; Frescobaldi; Hawksmoor Air Street; Hotel Café Royal; ikoyi; Ralph's Coffee and Bar; Scully; Sketch; Stem and Tibits .

Jane Wakiwaka sustainability manager at Crown Estate said: At the Crown Estate we take a long-term view in everything we do. We champion sustainable practices across our business and in partnership with our restauranteurs and retailers. The Regent Street and St James Food Waste Pledge is the next exciting step. We are proud to spearhead an initiative that will unite many of the fantastic restaurants on our portfolio and reduce food waste for a more sustainable future."
