Police ‘descend on' East London restaurant after loaf of bread mistaken for bomb

Police "descended on" an East London restaurant this morning after a loaf of bread left outside was mistaken for a bomb.

Italian inspired restaurant and grill Bombetta London, in Wanstead, said the alarm was raised after a member of the public spotted the loaf, which had been left in a paper bag with "Bomb" written on it.

Tweeting about the incident the restaurant said: "Gina opened this morning, took in the bread as normal, then was descended on by six police officers in a van with flashing lights. I've asked the bread supplier to no longer shorten our name."

Restaurant manager Jose Alonso told the Evening Standard: "It's gratifying that members of the public are so alert. But it was a completely innocent mistake. The police saw the funny side of it."
