Phil Howard looking to launch restaurant in French ski resort

Chef Phil Howard is expected to open a new casual restaurant at La Plagne Montalbert, in Mâcot-la-Plagne, France.

According to the French website Le Dauphine, the restaurant is expected to open this winter.

La Plagne Montalbert is a resort frequented by families during ski season, and is located near to Howard's £1m chalet.

Further details are yet to be announced and Howard was unavailable for comment at the time of publishing.

After Howard sold the Square in Mayfair to the Marlon Abela Restaurant Corporation in 2016, it was rumoured that he would retreat to the French Alps and open a restaurant there.

Instead, he opened Elystan Street in Chelsea with business partner Rebecca Mascarenhas.

Elystan Street is the third venture with Mascarenhas - they also run Sonny's Kitchen in Barnes, south west London and the Michelin-starred Kitchen W8 in Kensington.

He has worked in a variety of top restaurants including Marco Pierre White's legendary restaurant, Harvey's, where he cut his teeth in the industry and a stint Bibendum under Simon Hopkinson.
