Paul reopens seven London bakeries for delivery and takeaway

French artisan bakery brand Paul is the latest to reopen its units for delivery and takeaway, and is set to reopen more next week.

Paul's London stores in Canary Wharf, Hampstead, Holland Park, South Kensington, Hammersmith, Marble Arch and Wimbledon have already reopened, with Chelsea, Earl Court and Islington scheduled to open next week on 27 April.

For the first time, its baked goods are also available for delivery via Deliveroo and Uber Eats. The group joins brands such as Burger King, Pret and KFC, which have also reopened sites over the last week.

The group said social distancing will be maintained, with NHS workers, care workers, the elderly and disabled customers prioritised, staff wearing PPE, and handwashing and surface sanitising to take place every 10 minutes. All seating has been removed, transactions are cashless and the use of reuseable cups have been paused.

The Grocery Market at its Acton bakery remains open for locals to pick up essentials such as milk, fruit and veg as well as bread and pastries. The delivery radius has been expanded to include select SW postcodes as well as west London.

Mark Hilton, chief executive of Paul UK, said: “We took the careful decision to responsibly open some of our stores to extend our delivery miles and give access to those who can’t get to the supermarkets easily. We’ve put new processes in place and stepped up our already stringent hygiene measures.

“Our team members have returned on an opt-in volunteer basis – nobody feeling uncomfortable needs to come back – and the free coffees for NHS workers is a small token of our huge appreciation.”

Paul continues to donate meals to London hospitals and unsold bread and freshly baked bread pudding to London-based charity the Felix Project.
