Paramedics treat 12 after reports of gas leak at Kent hotel

Ambulance crews treated 12 people following reports of a gas leak at a hotel swimming pool in Kent.

Emergency services were called to reports of a gas leak at the Ashford International Hotel in Simone Weil Avenue shortly after 3pm yesterday (30 January).

Fire crews wearing gas-tight suits and breathing apparatus made the scene safe while paramedics treated 12 people, one of whom was taken to hospital for further treatment.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said it is working with Public Health England and Ashford Borough Council to determine the cause of the incident.

A spokesperson for Ashford International Hotel said: "We can confirm that the hotel was temporarily evacuated on Sunday 30 December. We liaised with the emergency services to ensure the safety of all guests and staff, who have now been allowed to return to the hotel where normal operation has resumed. We are currently carrying out a full investigation."
