Online booking service OpenTable has just launched a multi-language global service that will enable diners to make restaurant reservations around the world in their mother tongue.
The global booking function, which went live today, puts over 38,000 restaurants in more than 20 countries at diners' fingertips. People can search and book restaurants anywhere, read menus and access directions in their local language.
"This functionality will be especially pertinent to those travelling to or from destinations such as Japan, Germany, French Canada and Mexico where they will be able to experience OpenTable in their preferred language," said OpenTable CEO Christa Quarles. Languages currently supported include English, Spanish, French, German and Japanese.
"This is an exciting moment for OpenTable. For almost 20 years we have been helping diners to discover and make restaurant reservations in their home country. This evolution in how we engineer our current country sites and apps, means we can now power great restaurant experiences across multiple cities, in multiple languages," Quarles commented.
The launch also sees OpenTable, which is part of the Priceline Group, bring together all its separate country apps into one multi-language global app.
Quarles added: "The enhancements we have made enable us to further support our restaurant partners who will receive exposure to an increasing audience of global diners that it would be difficult and costly for them to target through their own marketing campaigns."
The new functionality follows research amongst 12,000 diners in seven countries that showed 97% of travellers eat out once a day and 48% dine out twice a day.
