Broomhill Estate and Sculpture Park in North Devon has been sold off a guide price of £1.3m.

The estate, which comprised a hotel, sculpture garden and restaurant had been closed indefinitely in January 2024 and placed on the market.

Closing the hotel previous owner, Frictionless Arts Limited, said it had not been granted government support during the Covid pandemic, which placed it under financial pressure, according to reports by the BBC.

The hotel and estate has now been sold to NAKO Modular for an undisclosed fee, a few days before a planned auction in July.

A spokesperson for the new owner said: “We are thrilled to be the new owners of Broomhill. Our team is eager to enhance an already impressive offering and reopen the estate for hotel guests and the community to enjoy once again.

“Over the next few months, we plan to introduce a series of thoughtful upgrades and modern amenities across the property, creating an elevated guest experience.

“Given Broomhill’s importance to the North Devon community, a key objective is to preserve the unique character of the site, and for it to remain a beloved destination for years to come.”

The hotel has seven recently refurbished bedrooms, a treatment room and hydropool, 150-cover restaurant, café and conference room.

It also has a disused outdoor swimming pool and tennis court and was a popular wedding venue, prior to its closure earlier this year.

The hotel dates back to 1913. Under a recent refurbishment each bedroom was redesigned in line with an art-house film.

Alex Kleiner, CEO of former owner Frictionless Arts Limited, said: “The hotel holds immense potential, and I am excited to pass the baton on to NAKO Modular to bring the hotel to back to life.

“The sale signifies more than just a change in ownership; it heralds a new chapter of revitalisation and investment into the property.”

The sale was facilitated by Savills.
