Morty & Bob's joins Coal Drops Yard line-up as opening date revealed

Café brand Morty & Bob's will open its second permanent site at the Coal Drops Yard shopping district in London.

The news emerged at the same time that the opening date for the development was revealed as 26 October this year.

The shopping district, designed by Heatherwick Studio, will feature more than 50 stores, restaurants and cafés.

It had already been revealed that Harts Group would open its biggest Barrafina yet at the development, along with Casa Pastor, a Mexican ‘big sister' to El Pastor in Borough Market, and the Drop wine bar.

The development will also be home to Le Chocolat Alain Ducasse, which will offer single-origin chocolates traditionally made in Paris under the name of the celebrated French chef and restaurateur.

Morty & Bob's, which serves grilled cheese sandwiches, soups and coffee, already has a site at Netil House in London's Hackney, as well as a residency in White City.

It operate from an open-plan site in a reimagined ‘coal drop', directly accessible from Granary Square.

Coal Drops Yard brings together a set of historic buildings and arches adjacent to Granary Square and Regent's Canal.

It was originally established in 1850 to handle the eight million tonnes of coal delivered to the capital each year, and was latterly the location of nightclubs Bagley's and the Cross.

Craig White, senior project director at developer Argent, said: "We are delighted to be able to announce the official opening date of Coal Drops Yard. We have set out to foster a community of shopkeepers and restaurateurs that are connected by a commitment to quality, craft and innovation."

Over 12,000 people now work in the area in companies including Google, Havas, PRS for Music, Louis Vuitton, Camden Council, the Office Group, Vistaprint, Autotrader and ArtFund. Universal Music is also to move in to a new headquarters at Four Pancras Square in September 2018.
