Mollie’s achieves B Corp status

It comes five years after the Soho House-designed brand opened its first motel and diner in Oxfordshire.

Mollie’s has secured B Corp certification.

The affordable motel and diner concept designed by Soho House first launched in 2019 in Buckland, Oxfordshire, which was followed closely by a second motel and diner off the M5 at Cribbs Causeway, Bristol, in 2021.

The group is planning to open its third Mollie’s in Manchester in 2025.

Over the past year, Mollie’s has achieved a 14% reduction in carbon intensity year on year through energy-efficient operations and waste-reduction initiatives.

In terms of culture, 54% of its managers identify as female, while 34% of its employees come from chronically underemployed communities.

By 2030, Mollie’s aims to have achieved zero waste to landfill across all of its properties, while also implementing 50,000 hours of employee training and development annually.

It achieved a B Corp score of 95.8 out of 200.

Darren Sweetland, managing director, said: “Becoming B-Corp marks an incredible achievement. I am very grateful for the dedication and hard work of the team at Mollie’s, and I extend our thanks to our suppliers and partners for their support and engagement.

“Looking ahead, we are filled with optimism and excitement for what the future holds in our journey. We know that there is far more work to be done and the hospitality industry holds a unique and powerful position in driving sustainable practices and we are committed to continually improving our sustainability efforts.”

Trudi Parr, head of people and development, added: “We will continue to absorb B Corp values throughout our business with a people-first approach. Mollie’s is proud to be a hospitality brand that thrives by putting people at the centre, ensuring our future team members and hospitality professionals know that times are changing for the better.”

Several hospitality businesses have secured B Corp certification over the past few months, including Fallow, Social Pantry, Bingham Riverhouse and Pizza Pilgrims.

Mollie’s was founded by former Soho House chief executive Nick Jones, initially launching under the Soho House brand prior to being spun off in 2020 as an independent entity.
