A total of 16 restaurants have lost stars in the newly published Michelin Guide to Great Britain and Ireland 2017, published today.
Many of the deletions are explained by the closure of restaurants, such as Hibiscus, which chef-proprietor Claude Bosi shut on Saturday (1 October) after 16 years. The restaurant originally opened in Ludlow, Shopshire, in 2000, before relocating to Londonâs Mayfair, in 2007. It won its first star in 2001 and a second in 2004. Bosi is rumoured to be planning a new restaurant venture, which is expected to launch next year.
Other restaurants have changed ownership, as in the case of the Square, which was acquired by the Marlon Abela Restaurant Corporation in March from chef-proprietor Philip Howard and business partner Nigel Platts-Martin. The Square was originally launched in St James in 1991 before relocating to Mayfair in 1996. It won its first star in 1994, with its second star being awarded four years later.
Michael Wignall at The Latymer lost its two stars as a result of Wignallâs move in January to Gidleigh Park in Chagford, Devon, where he replaced Michael Caines. Gidleigh Park has won two stars in the new guide. Matt Worswick replaced Wignall at Pennyhill Park in March.
