Michael Voigt appointed general manager at the Goring hotel

The Goring in London’s Victoria has appointed Michael Voigt from L’oscar as general manager.

Voigt will join the five-red-AA-starred, 69-bedroom hotel, which has been owned by the Goring family since 1910, in May. He will replace Stuart Geddes, who took up the position of hotel manager at the nearby Lanesborough hotel at the end of last year.

David Morgan-Hewitt, managing director of the Goring, who was appointed to his role in 2006 under George Goring, the father of current chief executive Jeremy Goring, said he was delighted that Voigt will be joining the hotel.

“Jeremy and I have known Michael for many years and believe he is the perfect general manager for the Goring. He has known George Goring for decades and his pedigree is absolutely impeccable. His recent work at L’oscar had been amazing and almost as dazzling as the interiors.

“Michael is perfect for this iconic English hotel and we can’t wait for him to move to SW1.”

Voigt spent five years at L’oscar, initially overseeing the £40m transformation of what was originally the headquarters and congress centre for the Baptist church into a 39-bedroom hotel, before the opening in May 2018.

Prior to joining L’oscar, German-born Voigt spent two years as general manager at the Arch London (now Prince Akatoki), which he joined from working as the deputy residential lead looking after 2,500 athletes at the Olympic Village during London 2012.

Earlier in his career he worked as hotel manager at Pennyhill Park, Bagshot, Surrey, where he was hotel manager, and in various roles in London hotels, including Dukes, One Aldwych and the Connaught.

The departure of Voigt from L’oscar will follow that of Tony Fleming as executive chef and food and beverage director. Fleming left the hotel at the end of 2019 after three years in his role to rejoin D&D London. Stuart Conibear will join L’oscar as head chef next month from the same role at the Ned in the City of London.
