Matthew Thomson is new chief executive at Fifteen Cornwall

Fifteen Cornwall has appointed Matthew Thomson as its new chief executive.

Thomson, who takes up the position today, joins the Jamie Oliver-inspired initiative from the London Community Resource Network, where he was chief executive. He replaces Dave Meneer, who left after more than four years at the helm of Fifteen Cornwall.

Inspired by Jamie Oliver Fifteen Cornwall, which launched in January 2006, the organisation has seen more than 120 chefs from disadvantaged backgrounds train at the Watergate Bay restaurant.

Before running the London Community Resource Network, Thomson was learning director at the School for Social Entrepreneurs and previously held senior roles at TimeBank and the National Lottery Charities Board (now BIG Lottery Fund).

He has also held a range of non-executive directorships and advisory positions with several third-sector private and public organisations and sits on the Civil Society Advisory Board in the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

Commenting on his new role, Thomson said: "I am delighted to join Fifteen Cornwall's exciting team and to have the chance to take the Cornwall Foundation of Promise forward as one of the county's leading charities.

"I am really impressed by the skills I've seen from this year's apprentices, and am humbled by the commitment and craft of the staff and trustees that have helped them learn such skills. It is truly an honour to take up the chief executive role and I look forward to working with Fifteen Cornwall's supporters who have contributed so much to our success, and to involving new partners in the months and years ahead."
