Perceptions by chef Mark Greenaway, of the eponymous three-AA-rosette Edinburgh restaurant, has been named the world's best chef cookery book at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2017.
The awards took place in Yantai, China, with publishers and chefs in attendance. The book beat entries from all over the world with shortlisted titles from Singapore, Sweden, Poland, France and the UAE in the final.
Greenaway wrote the book to celebrate Scotland's culinary clout. The Caterer interviewed Greenaway shortly after the publication of his book. At the time he said: "I chose the title Perceptions because Scotland is internationally renowned for its ingredients, but from my experience promoting Scottish food around the world, not always its cuisine. The perception of Scottish food needs to change."
Duncan Peters, managing publisher at Relish Publications added: "We knew straight away that Mark Greenaway had an amazing concept and outstanding culinary talent, which combined perfectly to help develop Perceptions. To win a country category is fantastic, but Perceptions has gone one further and to win outright in the best chef cookery book category, demonstrates that Mark's vision and commitment and our approach to developing an unique high quality publication has paid dividends."
