Maldron Hotels denies reselling rooms at inflated prices for Oasis reunion tour

The Dalata-owned hotel company stressed the cancellations occurred due to a ‘technical error’.

Maldron Hotels has confirmed it will be honouring all bookings made prior to 26 August after it faced accusations of cancelling reservations and listing them at higher prices following the Oasis reunion tour announcement.

Sacha Lord, night-time economy adviser for Greater Manchester, had called on Maldron Hotels to “do the right thing” after he was made aware of people who had booked to stay there during the Oasis concert, only to find “their rooms have just been cancelled and are now back up for three times the price”.

His tweet has since amassed more than 26,000 likes and 850 comments, some of which included screenshots of the cancellation emails.

Oasis announced the dates for their UK and Ireland tour earlier this week, which is due to start in Cardiff on 4 July 2025 and end in Dublin on 17 August 2025. The band has since revealed three more shows in Manchester, London and Edinburgh.

Maldron Hotels, which is owned by Dalata Hotel Group, operates two hotels in Manchester, two hotels in London and 11 hotels in Dublin, all cities in which Oasis are due to play next summer.

A spokesperson for Maldron Hotels has since revealed the cancellations at its Manchester properties occurred as a result of a “technical error” that was sparked from overbooking.

Dalata Hotel Group also owns Clayton Hotels, which has properties in Manchester Airport and Manchester City Centre. The Caterer understands those customers were unaffected by the booking system issue.

The Maldron Hotels spokesperson told The Caterer: “Due to a technical error with our booking system on 26 and 27 August 2024, substantially more rooms were booked than were available for the nights of the Oasis concerts on 11/12/19/20 July 2025 at Maldron Hotel Manchester City and Maldron Hotel Cathedral Quarter. As a result, we are unable to honour all bookings made on these dates, and we are actively engaging with customers regarding their bookings.

“The hotels are currently not taking any bookings while we investigate the issue. This is not an attempt to resell rooms at inflated prices, rather an overbooking issue due to a technical error with our booking systems.”

They added: “Additionally, due to the same technical error, a small number of customers were able to book the rooms at a higher price later that evening. We will also be unable to accommodate these bookings.”

A spokesperson for Sacha Lord confirmed he is “awaiting direct contact from the hotel regarding a resolution”.

Kate Nicholls, chief executive of UKHospitality, told The Caterer: “It is absolutely wrong for any hotel or accommodation business to cancel bookings and all advance bookings should be honoured. Fans looking to book stays in preparation for the tour would be advised to contact accommodation providers directly and book through them, rather than third-party booking sites.

“The recent Taylor Swift tour proved just how high demand can be for hospitality venues in the vicinity of stadia and so we would advise Oasis fans to book as far in advance as possible in order to avoid disappointment.”
