Lunyalita loses £4,000 in sales after electricity disconnected mid-service

Lunyalita restaurant in Liverpool has estimated it lost approximately £4,000 yesterday after its electricity was disconnected mid-service.

Posting on Twitter, the restaurant said that an SSE contractor entered the restaurant and disconnected its electricity even though its contract was with EON and was up to date.

The issue is believed to involve the account of a prior landlord. Owner Peter Kinsella (pictured) was initially unable to discuss the matter with SSE over the phone as he was not the account holder.

“None of our brilliant staff should have had to deal with it,” the restaurant said in a post on Twitter today, in which it claimed the contractor disconnected the electricity during lunch service, which saw the venue “plunged our restaurant into darkness, putting our guests and staff at risk, left us with no means to take any payments… and left us with a few thousand pounds of stock starting to rot in our fridges and freezers”, as well as “no functioning security or fire alarm”.

The restaurant, through its social media post going viral, was eventually able to get through to SSE and reach a resolution, as well as reconnect its electricity later that day, however it estimated it lost more than £4,000 in sales – not taking lost stock into account. Lunyalita said it would be seeking compensation for the losses.

A spokesman for SSE Business Energy said: “We are aware of an issue with energy supply at Lunyalita restaurant in Liverpool. Our team has worked with the restaurant owners and landlord of the property to investigate the circumstances and resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”
