April occupancy rate of 28.6% recorded at London hotels

London hotels recorded an occupancy rate of 28.6% during April, the last full month that lockdown restrictions applied, according to preliminary figures published by data company STR.

Average daily rate (ADR) and revenue per available room (revpar) for the capital during the same period was £67.13 and £19.23 respectively.

The absolute occupancy level was the highest for any month in London since October 2020, while the ADR and revpar rates levels were the highest since December 2020.

The data for London reflects what is happening in the rest of the UK, with other key cities recording similar occupancy figures in March: 27% in Birmingham, 24% in Manchester and 22% in Edinburgh.

Guests are currently allowed to stay in hotels if they offer self-contained accommodation or for essential reasons such as business purposes, attending a funeral or when moving house. Hotels in England will reopen to all guests on Monday 17 May.
