Coal Drops Yard
The first wave of restaurants has opened at new London shopping and restaurant district Coal Drops Yard in King's Cross, including Anthony Demetre's Vermuteria, Pip Lacey's Hicce and five restaurants from the Hart Brothers: Casa Pastor, Plaza Pastor, the Drop, Barrafina and Parrillan.
The historic buildings and arches adjacent to Granary Square and Regent's Canal have undergone a £100m transformation after falling into disuse in the 1990s.
Casa Pastor, a ‘big sister' to Borough's El Pastor, is focused on tacos, while outdoor dining terrace Plaza Pastor is more drinks-led. The Drop wine bar aims to be relaxed and unpretentious, while Parrillan will open in spring 2019 with tabletop charcoal grills.
Chef Demetre and designer Michael Sodeau's Vermuteria is a café-bar serving drinks using vermouth, amaro and fernet, and British and European cuisine, with dishes including pork cheek croquettes, wild mushrooms and snails on toast.
Former Murano head chef Lacey has opened Hicce within clothing store Wolf & Badger, an 80-cover restaurant that is a partnership between Lacey and her long-time friend and business partner Gordy McIntyre.
Tom Dixon's Coal Office restaurant also opened ahead of the official launch.
