Kitchen Rat: Are PRs psychic? And who'll be dancing on the Wetherspoon bars?

Psychic PR?

Any good restaurant PR should be a step ahead of the latest trends in order to give their clients an edge over the competition. Well, maybe Sauce Communications knows something we all don’t, as in a recent release promoting the 20th anniversary of Northcote’s Obsession festival, they awarded Gareth Ward’s Ynyshir a second Michelin star and Richard Corrigan’s Mayfair restaurant Corrigan’s its first. With the tyre-maker due to hand out its gongs in less than three weeks, could Sauce be correct on both counts?

Dancing on the bar

It will come as no surprise to hear that JD Wetherspoon chairman Tim Martin will be a happy landlord if Britain leaves the EU on 31 October. At a press conference to discuss his pub group’s latest financial results, he was asked how the event would be marked across his 879 sites. He responded: “We are planning on a party that will make the 1977 Queen’s Jubilee seem like a vicar’s tea party. If we leave on the 31 October, there will be dancing in the streets and breakdancing in our pubs. I have just made it up, so now it’s official.”

You’ve got to be kidding!

James Whetlor of Cabrito Goat Meat – and author of the fantastic book Goat – was left stroking his goatee (I imagine) after shared workspace company WeWork offered to “shout about” his business in return for it waiving an £80 invoice. It made this somewhat desperate request in the same week that the Financial Times reported a valuation of WeWork at $15b (£12b).
