Plates and Native among September Michelin Guide additions

They join Jeremy King’s the Park in London and the Counter by Robin Read in Royal Tunbridge Wells, which are also listed in the guide.

Kirk Haworth’s Plates in London and Native in Tenbury Wells are among fifteen new restaurants that have been added to the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland’s selection this month.

Great British Menu 2024 winner Haworth opened plant-based restaurant Plates with his sister Keeley in June this year, fresh off his 2023 Menu of the Year Catey win. The chef took his Lyme disease diagnosis in 2016 as an opportunity to celebrate vegan ingredients and present them in an exciting way to diners.

The Michelin Guide praised the Haworths for their “detailed, original vegan dishes [that] arrive in a tasting menu format, providing something rarely found elsewhere in the city”.

Native, which was launched by Ivan Tisdall-Downes and Imogen Davies in May this year at the former site of Pensons on the Netherwood Estate, was also added to the guide for its “delightful kitchen gardens” and its “hyper-seasonal menu”.

Meanwhile, ex-Brat and Kerridge’s chef Whyte Rushen’s Whyte’s in London was recognised for its “big-flavoured food” cooked with “clever ingenuity”.

Jeremy King’s the Park in London was praised by the guide for being a big and buzzy opening with an "eminently appealing menu" and design that was "just the right amount of plush".

The majority of restaurants added to this month’s selection came from London, though there were several nods to the regions, such as Tare Bistro in Bristol, which was included for its “great value” sharing plates menu, as well as the Counter by Robin Read, which was launched by the ex-Firmdale Hotel Group executive chef in May this year.

Michelin updates its recommendations each month based on its inspectors’ travels, with any additions highlighted by a ‘New’ symbol.

It does not confirm if the restaurants will receive a star, Bib Gourmand or any other awards until the next formal Michelin Guide ceremony, which will likely take place early next year.
