Kingshouse hotel to reopen in February following £12m revamp

The Kingshouse hotel in Glencoe is set to reopen on 8 February 2019 following a £12m revamp.

The 57-bedroom hotel and bunkhouse, in the Scottish Highlands, are managed by Scottish hospitality business Crieff Hydro and have been owned by the Black Corries Estate since 2014.

The hotel's Climbers bar has been renamed the Way Inn, while a new restaurant has been added, serving traditional British dishes. The bunkhouse accommodation has been modernised and upgraded, with new drying rooms and a bag store added.

The project, managed by Bidwells property consultancy, has created 54 new jobs at the property, for which recruitment is ongoing.

Craig Haddow (pictured) joined the hotel as general manager in August. Haddow previously worked for Crieff Hydro as food and beverage development manager and has rejoined the group from his role as general manager of Boclair House in Glasgow.

Chief executive of Crieff Hydro, Stephen Leckie, said: “Our motivation from the outset, was to provide continuity for all the things which make Kingshouse unique, while ensuring its longevity for another century and more.

“It was important for all of us to retain the ethos of muddy boots and wet dogs drying in front of open fires, while ensuring the standard of hospitality and comfort was fit for the international audience attracted to dramatic Glencoe.”

Crieff Hydro owns or manages seven other hotels across Scotland: the Isles of Glencoe, the Ballachulish in Lochaber, the Crieff Hydro in Perthshire, the Peebles Hydro, the Murraypark hotel in Perthshire and the Park near Peebles.
