Dark kitchen brand operator KBox falls into administration

Dark kitchen brand business KBox has fallen into administration after experiencing “trading difficulties”.

KBox licensed delivery-only brands, working with restaurants to monetise spare kitchen capacity.

It was founded in 2015 and grew during the pandemic when the delivery market expanded rapidly, working with restaurants, pubs and hotels. Its teams devised brands as well as delivering the training and technology required to launch them in operators’ premises.

Nick Holloway and Will Wright from Interpath Advisory were appointed Joint Administrators of KBox on Wednesday 11 October.

Administrators have made all 18 employees redundant saying it became clear “a solvent solution was not available”.

Nick Holloway, managing director at Interpath Advisory and joint administrator, said: “This is a challenging time for many dark kitchen operators, as cost inflation continues to impact margins.

“We will now be exploring the rapid sale of both the brands and platform and would ask that any interested parties make contact with us at the earliest opportunity.”

KBox’s brands included Absurd Bird chicken burgers and vegan sister concept Absurd Vird, World of Wings and Super Rico.
