Healthy takeaway brand Abokado has appointed Kara Alderin as its first managing director.
The company, which has 24 outlets in London, has promoted Alderin from the position of operations director. Alderin was appointed to the company in February 2018 and will now also join the board.
Mark Lilley, who co-founded the business in 2004 with his wife Lindsay, said the company was proud to announce the appointment on International Women's Day.
"I'm delighted to be promoting Kara into this role. During her relatively short time with us she's proven herself as immensely capable. The board has been particularly impressed with her ability to understand the big picture and set strategic direction.
"Kara not only believes in the long-term vision for Abokado but also lives and breathes our values. When you've founded a business it's not easy to start letting go of the reins. I imagine it's like giving a step parent shared custody of your child! It's great to have finally found someone who Lindsay and I can trust to help steer the ship."
Alderin began her career in hospitality at the age of 15, working in the hotel and inns sector in Norfolk before going on to study hospitality management. In 2009 she joined independent pub operator Fuller's, where she developed through the business to head of operations before joining Abokado.
She said: "Abokado is an incredibly vibrant and exciting brand to work for and I'm thrilled to be helping the company move into its next chapter."
Abokado intends to take its menu of sushi, salads, hot pots, breakfast and coffee to venues across the UK.
