Jitin Joshi appointed executive chef of London's Gymkhana restaurant

The former executive chef of the Taj hotel in Dubai has been appointed to the same role at the Michelin-starred Gymkhana restaurant in London.

Jitin Joshi will oversee the menus of the Mayfair restaurant (pictured) and work with the founders, Jyotin, Karam and Sunaina Sethi, on new projects. The Sethi siblings' other Indian restaurants, which operate under JKS Restaurants, include Trishna, also the holder of a Michelin star, and Brigadiers, a barbecue outlet. They also own Sri Lankan restaurant Hoppers.

Originally from India, Joshi trained at the Oberoi School in Delhi, before beginning his culinary career in Jaipur. In 2001 he moved to London to work at the Capital hotel under Eric Chavot and later moved on to be head pastry chef at Gordon Ramsay's Maze restaurant. He then spent several years working at Atul Kochhar's Benares, combining his knowledge and experience of Indian food with his French cooking skills.

After two year's working at Vatika in Hampshire, Joshi relocated to Dubai in 2011 to take up the role of head chef at the Amal restaurant within the Armani hotel. He was later appointed executive chef of Atmosphere, the world's tallest restaurant located on the 122nd floor of the Burj Khalifa, before being appointed executive chef at the Taj hotel, where he oversaw 10 F&B operations.

JKS Restaurants has backed a number of independent restaurants, including Lyle's (one Michelin star), Sabor (one Michelin star), Kitchen Table (two Michelin stars), Bubbledogs, Bao, Xu, and Berenjak, which will open later this month.
